Traditional Mexican Music

Edgar, Miguel Y Roberto
The other afternoon we walked down to La Playa Ropa to take in some live traditional Mexican music at El Marlin restaurant (right on the beach).  These guys were a nice blend of vocals and guitar.  Lots of people play guitar and sing, but these fellows were artists.  We bought their CD.

  1. I'm guessing you were at the El Marlin Restaurant on Wednesday? I think that's when they have live music, and the beach chairs are free (no $5 fees). I even know some of the staff - Jose & Angelica. Rumor has it that people spend the whole day at this place, since it is right on the beach. What we have here is Tradition Mexican Music on steroids = Edgar is playing an electric base, and the two classical guitars are wired to amps. I've been watching Jake, and he's still solidly connected to Mexican music, and is in the process of buying another really nice guitar (I think he owns at least four). If I had life to live over, surely I'd give up the clarinet for a guitar, and I'd spend the rest of my life like Miguel y Roberto.
