Neighborhood Scene 3

Container Garden
Here is another typical scene of a home garden and wrought iron steps.  They extend right on to the sidewalk.  One can still see the Terracotta containers used all over, but tradition sometimes has given way to plastic, economics and convenience.

  1. Container gardening is a great idea, and we're using 14 containers for gardening around our house. Containers are easy to move with the sunshine, they don't require much land or dirt, watering is convenient, the buckets are cheap and plentiful, and weeds are easy to control. Your photo goes to show that a person does not need a plot of land to do gardening. Last year was my first attempt at maintaining a real garden, and as I think back on it, the part I enjoyed most was watching the plants grow. I'll bet that's why these 16 containers are lined up on the sidewalk and upper shelf: the plants make life more beautiful and alive. They also send the message that someone is probably home, probably friendly and probably happy. I was surprised last year, as I grew red bell peppers in a container right on the curb, that with all the foot traffic going and coming, no one stole the peppers! Likewise, the plants in your photo are right out there where the public walks, and yet they are apparently left alone. At least that is how the photo strikes me.
