Catch of the Day

Captain Alejandro
Well we took off from the pier around 7:00 am on a Panga and headed to the open ocean. 14 miles out.  The captain was very skilled and rigged up about 6 rods with a variety of plugs and live bait.  Interestingly, he sewed on the bait to the hook and then set the lines at various depths.  On the way out  we  saw whales breaching, turtles swimming and dolphins jumping all around the boat.  Had a few strikes and had to put on new bait. Then the awaited call, "Fish On".  This sailfish put up a good fight, but was no match for the gear we were using.  A great day on the ocean.  Oh yeah, it was a "Catch and Release".

  1. Wow!! Certainly did not expect to see a photo like this! Alejandro must have been pleased. His Panga looks several grades more advanced than the Pangas I've photographed near the fish market, though it's obviously an outboard. Would have loved being there, especially in a kayak, to watch the episode. Even after all my yawn on regulations (yesterday's post), I'm happy about this being a "catch & release" moment. This sailfish is far too beautiful and majestic to sacrifice for the table, because there is plenty of other food available for that. That was a great way to spend the day.
