Saturday afternoon we went to a Mexican wedding. John and Beti Sullivan's daughter was married on the beach, Playa Larga. Of course we didn't have any wedding clothes so we threw what we had together and wore our sombreros. The event was held at a very nice facility with white table clothes and all the beautiful decorations. A sit down dinner was served to over 150 guests and beverages flowed all evening. Typical of Mexico, the invitation said 4:00 pm and things didn't even begin until after 5:30 pm. Many Mexican traditions, decorations and Salsa dancing. It was a blast. We left around 11:30 pm as the locals were just getting started. These events can go well into the morning til 4:30 am or later.
If I remember right, Playa Larga is the long straight beach to the south of Zihuatenejo that ends at the lagoon, right? You once stayed down that direction in a rental until the mosquitoes drove you north to the tourist beach. I have a photo of you diving into a curling wave, as you went swimming while we had lunch. If this is the same place, it ought to be the near perfect location for a wedding party (if there are no black biting bugs). I remember the beach being miles in length, exceptionally wide and no tourists. There are facets of the Mexican culture which I envy, like the ability to relax and celebrate something without imminent deadlines, regulations and fees constantly interfering. I can imagine being there, swinging in a hammock until falling asleep to the music and conversations of the Mexican wedding. I can enjoy large celebrations, as long as I keep to the periphery of the crowds and no one is being disruptive.
ReplyDeleteHey that's my hat!!
ReplyDeleteKaren, your "wedding" dress is beautiful! I noticed that way before the hat!
Rog , thanks for keeping us all posted with the words and the pics that paint a thousand words.
