Was walking this morning and looking for interesting things to photograph. Not much going on but snapped a shot of these two walking up the street. Walking is one of the main modes of transportation here. I think that's because of the great weather. I am reading a book,
Born to Run, about the Tarahumara Indians who are "superathletes" able to run 100 miles without seemingly tiring. That's approximately 4 back to back marathons. These Indians live in the remote Mexican Copper Canyon and have running in their DNA. They love to run and wear low-tech strap-on sandals. They have no training and simply run for the pleasure of running. They've never been told that they can't run 100 miles. As children no one never told them to "slow down, stop running around".

I did a study once on how much time Jesus spent outside, especially walking. It was enlightening. He practically lived outdoors, often slept under the stars, overnighted on mountain tops, and walked from one end of Israel to the other, then crossed the country. I think humans were designed to move, and that doing so helps stay maladies like depression, sleep, purposelessness and isolation. Walking builds relationships (which may be why the two women are walking together), gives us time to process our lives and challenge ourselves (like the runner). We notice things we would not otherwise see, and meet people who would probably never cross our path. Today we'd say Jesus did a lot of hiking.
