Chicken Talk

The Flock
Of course this blog wouldn't be complete without a chicken post.  Karen misses her chickens, but has adopted the ones at the Children's Home.  They have about 10 chickens (Hens and Roosters) that provide eggs for the kids.

Karen seems to know where each chicken is in Zihuatanejo.  Along Calle Adelita going into town, she always stops to say Buenas Noches to the chickens roosting in the trees.

Last year at the Children's Home they had a huge chicken (Claudio) that could hardly walk.  He bit at everyone's legs.  He is missing this year.  They now call him Chicken Mole (mo lay).

  1. Serves Claudio right! Should not peck at your master's legs. There's probably a spiritual lesson here, although I'm not sure I want to think about it. I just watched a special presentation on getting the most out of your executed chickens on the Dr. Mercola web site. He uses everything, putting the skeleton, cartilage into a crock pot for 36 hours to leach out some of the most nutritious broth man can make. Organic chicken is Joe Mercola's primary source for protein, and he also advocates eating eggs raw, as long as they're organic and come from free range hens. There must be a pet connection in there someplace, but he doesn't discuss how to deal with that. It is strange being a carnivore, and though I'm mesmerized that humans can attain a measure of self-awareness, I'm often uncomfortable with what I see in myself and others. So... a final tribute to Claudio: Thanks for keeping someone fed for another day.
