| Reading to Rocoso |
Our friend Janet has been suffering from acute back pain for several years and has spent thousands of dollars on various treatments without any results. She can't sit, can't sleep and is in pain most of the day. Janet has been taking pain medication with stomach side affects. Well, Victor treated her and did the micro-surgery to loosen scar tissue around her nerves. We are waiting to see if that finally helps.
Victor is also a veterinarian and works both businesses. I sat down to read while we were waiting and this small cat jumped up next to me and would not leave. Karen even tried to get it to sit with her without any luck. Why me? I decided to name it Rocoso. (Rocky)

If Rocoso could talk, I'll bet you'd hear something like, "I feel safe sitting next to you. Not sure why, but I am sure I can trust you." As an observer, I'm suspicious that children have this same instinct, that they intuitively "know" when one person is safe and another is not. Of course, things still go wrong, but there must be a built-in awareness for these things. In general, I've observed that children & animals are comfortable around you (and Edmund), whereas I always have to earn it. Yesterday, Arabel looked at me and said with a measure of spunk, "You know, Pappy, I'm not afraid of you!" It was cute, and was exactly the thing I wanted to hear.
