Friday, I visited the dump with some friends who were distributing "Shoe Boxes" from the Samaritan's Purse organization. Families fill these boxes and tubs with all sorts of small gifts for children in need and they are sent all over the world. Zihuatanejo Christian Fellowship was distributing a number of boxes to the children attending the stick school at the dump. I wandered over to a small structure and found a few friendly people sitting around. Everyone was pleased to introduce me to the 101 year old woman. Sometimes age is a blessing. As Karen has often quoted: "Don't complain about getting old, it is a privilege denied many".
I will post a couple of pictures tomorrow of the Samaritan's Purse shoe box project.

I read an interesting paragraph the other day, which on it's face is a bit confusing, but after some reflection the words came alive with meaning: "Below, at the sun's urging, a boiling sea of silver-white puffy clouds melted into spellbinding hues of pink, orange and gold. The beauty stopped us in our tracks. 'God loves those who are young,' Paul said. Although I wasn't exactly sure what he meant, it seemed an apt statement." (Snow in the Kingdom, Climbing the Kangshung Face (Everest), overlooking Tibet, 105, 2015). My take away on the statement, "God loves those who are young," is that God loves grateful hearts, eyes that recognize beauty and souls who embrace life. I think one could say this about the 101 year old woman, that God loves her because she is "young." Old age is only something that happens to our bodies.
